الجذور التاريخية والفكرية للتمثلات الغربية عن الإسلام

إن الباحث في تاريخ العلاقة بين أوربا والعالم الإسلامي، منذ الاحتكاك الأول بينهما إلى المرحلة المعاصرة، يلحظ التأثير الكبير الذي كان لهذه العلاقات التاريخية المتوترة في صورة الإسلام في المتخيل الغربي. حيث سعى الفكر الغربي عموما إلى ترسيخ ذلك العداء المستمر، الذي سبق أن ترعرع في حضن الكنيسة من خلال الأدبيات الغربية والمؤلفات اللاهوتية في أوروبا القرون الوسطى، وتوسع ليشمل مختلف مجالات الإنتاج الفكري والثقافي والسياسي، التي يحضر فيها الإسلام/الآخر، باعتباره عدوا منافسا في القيم والتشريع والثقافة، أو موضوعا للتوسع وبسط الهيمنة، أو مصدر تهديد لأسس الحضارة الغربية. إن هذا البحث هو محاولة للحفر في أهم الأصول الفكرية والجذور التاريخية القروسطية لهذه الصور النمطية عن الإسلام، والتي ظلت تتكرر وتتطور في المتخيل الغربي رغم تطاول الزمان وتقارب البلدان.

The researcher in the history of the relationship between Europe and the Muslim world, from their first contact up to the contemporary times, notes the significant impact that these tense historical relations have had on the image of Islam in the western imagination. Western thought generally sought to consolidate a persistent hostility, which had long been nurtured by the church, as evidenced in Western literature in medieval Europe, and which expanded to cover various areas of intellectual, cultural and political production, in which Islam/ the other is introduced as a rival in values, legislation, and culture, and as a subject of expansion and hegemony, or as a source of threat to the foundations of western civilization. This research is an attempt to explore the most important intellectual origins and the medieval historical roots of the stereotypical images about Islam, which have continued to persist and develop in the western imagination, despite the passage of lengthy time and the convergence of countries.
